What is autism?

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication.  Indicators of

 autism usually appear by age 2 or 3. 

Here are some signs to look for in your child.

  • Not respond to their name 

  • does not point at objects or things of interest, or demonstrate interest.

  • Not play “pretend” games.

  • Avoid eye contact.

  • Want to be alone.

  • Have difficulty understanding, or showing understanding, or other people's feelings or their own
